TE Connectivity, a world leader in connectors and sensors, has opened a new facility at its campus in Tanger Med Industrial Platform to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The facility will produce electrical components to support customers in fast-changing industrial markets, such as electric vehicles, factory automation, battery and energy storage systems, and lighting.
Situated within Tanger Med Industrial Platform, the state-of-the-art facility spans 20,000 square meters. It will provide a wide range of capabilities, including molding, over-molding, assembly, design engineering, and project management. The site will play a pivotal role in manufacturing essential components for key product lines that enable the connection, identification, and sensing of electrical components within industrial markets.
Tanger Med Complex assumes its leading role in Africa and the Mediterranean, supporting economic development and driving sustainable industrialization. Connected weekly to more than 180 ports worldwide and 70 countries, this international gateway also encompasses a large industrial platform hosting more than 1200 companies representing a yearly export turnover of more than 13 b USD in various sectors such as automotive, aeronautics, logistics, textile, and general trade sectors.
Setting up its 4th industrial unit at Tanger Automotive City (TAC), a dedicated zone of 4 b USD in investments that accommodates 150 automotive operators of complementary ranks, TE Connectivity maintains its leadership position among a comprehensive industrial ecosystem that includes global OEMs and In suppliers. In 2022 alone, TAC generated a business volume of around 7 b USD.
“TE Connectivity has been operating in Tanger Med for more than a decade and we have been pleased with the availability of talent and the conducive investment climate enabled by the government,” said Vish Ananthan, senior vice president, and general manager of TE’s industrial business. “With the addition of a fourth manufacturing plant in Tangier, we look forward to building on our presence to enhance service levels to our customers in the EMEA region.”
The facility is expected to generate an additional 1,000 jobs by mid-2024, adding to the 100 000 direct jobs created within the industrial platform. TE has continued to invest and grow its presence in Morocco over the last 10 years, starting with a distribution center in 2012. Since then, TE decided to expand its local operations into manufacturing and added-value engineering such as product development. Currently, TE Morocco employs more than 3,500 employees in a very large industrial campus with four manufacturing plants located in different activity zones within Tanger Med Industrial Platform, as well as a distribution center in Tanger Med logistics zones for its logistics operations.
“For more than 10 years, we continue to invest and strengthen our presence in Morocco,” said Ayoub Daoudi, senior director, and general manager of TE North Africa. “The opening of this fourth manufacturing plant shows the trust we have in Moroccan talents and the opportunities that the country can bring us, and which benefits from a strategic position and proximity to all of our customers, particularly the European and African markets.”
From this new facility, TE will provide innovative, high-performance technologies and solutions for control cabinets that serve industrial markets around the world. Customers depend on TE solutions to provide innovative and reliable electrical components and solutions for various industrial environments.
“The new factory will enable us to meet the growing demand for industrial solutions and bolster supply chains for the region,” said Jason Moore, vice president, and general manager for industrial electrical business. “As the world becomes more electric, this is an exciting time for TE’s industrial business group as we work to create a safer, sustainable, productive, and connected future.”
